Reporting Investment Income from Stocks
Course Description:
The consolidated 1099 statement our clients receive from their brokers ranges from the simple to the painfully complex. The best way to deal with a consolidated 1099 is to break it down into pieces! This webinar covers the 1099-B, the 1099-DIV, and the 1099-MISC.
The most commonly reported transactions for clients with stocks are income from dividends and sales of securities. This webinar will review the ins and outs of reporting dividends, (including dividends that qualify for the 199A deduction), nondividend distributions, distributions in lieu, capital gain distributions, and sales of securities.
Objectives
Objective 1: Describe the components of a consolidated 1099 statement, including the 1099-B, 1099-DIV, and 1099-MISC forms, highlighting both the simple and complex aspects.
Objective 2: Explain the key elements of reporting income from dividends, with a focus on dividends that qualify for the 199A deduction, ensuring participants understand the nuances of this deduction.
Objective 3: Outline the reporting requirements for nondividend distributions and distributions in lieu, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of these types of income.
